«Seeds Among Ashes«

This it’s me, Samlo ( @samlo.es ) and, on March 2022, I decided to stop everything I was doing to bring a «creative hug» in these complicated times of war to the weakest individual: the Ukrainian children refugee in Poland. I’m here at Poland since the day I decided to come.

I think that the only distance is the indifference and as a big family we should contribute to the most helpless.

I’m sharing the all experience, day by day, through the account @samlofoundation that performs this initiative called Seeds Among Ashes.

All together we can make a difference from our place. It’s not that it’s worth it, it’s that it deserves life.

I’m not alone:

Supported by Volvo Cars, Apple, Cece-Madrid, Asociación Hogar de María, Fundación Ecomar, ProStyle Foundation, Acción Ucrania, Hotel Occidental Barcelona, Hotel Barceló Costa Vasca, Mercure Orleans Hotel, Lègére Hotel Bielefeld, 3nitycreative, Matryoshka Travel and more than 250 volunteers around Europe.

Short-term goal:

To give a «creative hug» during war times to the weakest individual: the children. The only distance is the indifference and as a big family we should protect the defenseless. Samlo Foundation came to do this by the power of creativity and art.

March 9, 2022 – We traveled to Poland to attend through art, music, sculpture, educational games, sports, etc, to all the children affected by the war between Ukraine and Russia who are now refugees there.

Long-term goal:

To take care of this children that are our future and the future of the Ukrainian society. We will protect the future generations by art and creativity for the good of humanity.

Every week, we identify refugee centers around Poland and provide to the children creative activities starting by the drawing lessons as Samlo did during the pandemic in 2020. Once they understand the reasons why we are there, we add more activities like sports, singing, dancing, etc.

Refugee centers:

  • Warsaw EXPO
  • Sródmiescie – Warsaw
  • Torwar Hall – Warsaw
  • Mazowickie – Warsaw
  • Agricola – Warsaw

March 14, 2022 – We started our mission at the Warsaw EXPO.

But, so far, there are no refugee camps in Poland, thanks in some part to grass roots efforts by charities, businesses, individuals and local officials that pooled their resources to face the logistical challenge of providing for so many people so quickly and create places like the one at the expo center.

For now, they need shelter, food and somewhere to sleep after hours or days on the road. The visitors have stayed for a day or two to rest and have a hot meal before moving on. Some 35,000 people have come through the site so far.

We worked with a group of 35 children that were living there and we had an amazing Ukrainian girl that helped us with the language.

March 15, 2022 – We came back to the Warsaw EXPO.

Today we created two different drawings with 32 children and some of their mothers joined the activity too.

March 16, 2022 – We went to an orphanage that is helping refugee mothers and kids. They have around 100 kids per building. We painted with a big part of them (around 45).

March 17, 2022 – We joined the Torwar Hall, a refugee camps in Poland where the visitors stays for a day or two to rest and have a hot meal before moving on. Some 45,000 people have come through the site so far. The organization there is very good and they count with so many volunteers.

After this place, we went to Mazowickie. I was a very surprise because the place is under bad conditions and there are a lot of families like at the Warsaw Expo but worst. In the other hand, the babies and kids has a very warm and confortable place to stay. We went there and we started by drawing all together.

We worked with 45 children between 3 years old to 12.

March 17, 2022 – We came back to Mazowickie. The same kids were waiting for us. We stayed with them the all day. We created with 55 children that day.
